Position Summary:
Assist bus drivers in providing on-going and emergency support to special needs students (both ambulatory and non-ambulatory) while riding, loading, or unloading the school bus to ensure the safety of all passengers on special needs buses
Note: This is a part-time, non-benefitted position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Assists the driver with loading and unloading students to include using a mechanical lift to load and off-load wheel chairs
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Assists drivers with seating to include securing wheel chairs, mobility chairs, child restraint systems, and other types of equipment as required by students to ensure safe delivery of students
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Learns the bus route , riders, and emergency plans in order to assist a substitute driver when needed
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Assists the driver in developing and formulating emergency response procedures and assists in emergency evacuation situations
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Assists the driver in maintaining appropriate records
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Maintains constant surveillance of fragile, medically classified students who ride special needs buses; Maintains knowledge of each student's individual needs
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Reports unsafe acts or conditions which require the attention of the bus driver
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Manages student behavior in accordance with the laws of the State of Georgia and the policies of the state and local board of education
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Communicates effectively with school staff, parents, and the public
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Attends all required safety meetings and trainings
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Performs other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ High School Diploma or GED preferred
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ None required; Previous experience working with students with disabilities preferred
Minimum Qualifications:
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Knowledge and understanding of the proper use of different types of child restraint systems used for transporting students with special needs is a plus
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Must be dependable and have reliable transportation
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Must be able to follow written and oral instructions quickly and accurately
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Must successfully complete School Bus Aide training and other mandated training as required by student need;
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical , and pre-employment drug and alcohol test;
ΓΆΒ ΒΆ Have or be able to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification preferred
Salary Information:
$8.74 Per Hour
Salary placement with Fulton County Schools is non-negotiable. Actual salary placement will be based on Fulton County Board of Education experience calculations from the Substitute Salary Schedule

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
